I don’t have any local knowledge that might help, sorry! I wonder if taking out an advert, like Fluffycat says, in Craig’s List, or in local SF listings papers, saying what you can offer and what you’re looking for might work?

Advertise yourself, simply.

Or, what I do in those situations, is try to imagine myself as the person (with spare house/whatever) and work out where they’d look to find someone like *you*.

Dunno if you check Craig’s List but sometimes ads for situations like that come up, where you could live some place rent free in SF or environs.
